You can remove both sections of the front skid plate in one piece if you remove the correct bolts. Here's an illustration of which bolts to remove in order to simplify skidplate removal.
Here's an underneath view of the Montero Sport - "A view I see too often for my liking!" The last center bolt to be removed is strong enough to support the entire skidplate assembly - which makes it easier to remove since you don't have to worry about holding the plate up (untill you're at the last threads of the bolt that is). If your left handed, you can alter the removal order so that the left center bolt is the last one remaining.
